Sayon Syprasoeuth: Demi-God (Conversation with the devil)
Opening Reception: Tuesday 7-9pm, July 30, 2013 (one-night-only show)
PØST is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Sayon Syprasoeuth. This will be his first one-person exhibition since 2008.
In his latest work, Syprasoeuth takes us back to the early stage of the Khmer Rouge take-over of Cambodia, and asks the question: The KR genocide killed so many people such as doctors, teachers, lawyers, musicians and visual artists -- anyone who knew or represented the previous social structure. How then is it that the Cambodian king and
his family survived?
In his new work (created in 2012-13) he gets us to see the dilemma and tough choices one has to make while being pressure by outside forces, as well as internal, spiritual and subconscious voices inside us to make the smartest one – sometimes a difficult decision that save oneself.
