The Thirteenth Grade
curated by Mary Anna Pomonis
The show 13th grade invites artists of different ages to draw as a live action on July 26th at PØST. The drawings represent a spontaneous collaboration between successful working artists and young students. The ideas questioned by the premise are notions of academic value and authorship. So much value is ascribed to artwork that is derivative either via an institution or institutional culture. Here naive artists are mixed anonymously with established artists focusing the issue and creating a product ( collaborative drawings) that fall in the academic gap between high school and college, art history and popular culture.
The artists participating are: Benjamin Ball, Kristin Calabrese, Christine Guyiangco, Hazel Handan, Anaeis Ohanian, Stas Orlovski, Ben Tegel, Sabina Ott, Jason Pinsker, Max Presneill, Justin Stadel, Guilia Tassius, Allison Stewart and Eve Wood.
