Simphiwe Ndzube.
Katherina Olschbaur explores the transformative and illusionistic
qualities of paint. Her diverse compositions deal with the experience of
danger and pleasure, where closeness and distance begin to dissolve. She
explores the narrative of space in painting, questioning the politics of
certainty and predictability. Her inspiration comes from the quotidian and
its memory, her downtown Los Angeles studio setting and history of painting.
Olschbaur relocated her studio to Los Angeles a year ago. She has been active
in the Viennese art scene since 2010.
Olscbaur has had solo shows in Museum Daniel Spoerri (AT), MUSA -
Museum on Demand, Vienna (AT), Magazin Vienna (AT), Gallery Grazy, Graz
(AT), two person shows at Galerie Lisi Hämmerle (AT), Kunstraum LLL, Vienna
(AT), Kunstraum am Schauplatz Vienna (AT) and Büro Weltausstellung (AT). Her
work was shown in group exhibitions in the Museum Gironcoli (AT) MAK - Museum
of Applied Arts, Vienna (AT), 2011 Biennale BJCEM Thessaloniki (GR),
Salzburger Kunstverein (AT), Kunsthalle Krems (AT), 21er Haus Vienna (AT),
Lisa Ruyter Gallery (AT), Christine König Gallery (AT), Vienna Art Foundation
(AT), Kunstraum am Schauplatz (AT), Galerie im Traklhaus (AT), Bazonnale
Weimar (DE), Schattendorfbiennale (AT) (curated by Christian Egger), ReMAp
Festival 2011 Athens (GR). Recent group exhibitions and projects include
Pictures of Nothing, PG Art Gallery, Istanbul (TR) (curated by Ari Akkermans)

Katherina Olschbaur was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize (2009),
Sussmann Grant (2009), Start Grant of the BMUKK (2011) and nominated for the
Kapsch Prize for Contemporary Art (2015). Residencies include CCA Andratx
Residency in Mallorca (2015), Annexes Bourglinster Residency in Luxembourg
(2016), Paliano Artist Residency (2009), recently she was awarded a Residency
at the Red Gate Residency Program Beijing from the Austrian Culture Fonds
(Summer 2017). Her work is in public and private collections in Austria, The Collection
Belvedere, City of Vienna, Museum Angerlehner, Oskar Kokoschka Collection, as
well as in some major private collections in Turkey.
She works together with Christine König Gallery Vienna, as well as
Galerie Grazy, Graz and Vienna Art Foundation.
